Stained Glass Classes

From the Mailbag

Every day, during my morning constitutional (by which I mean a brisk walk), I take a moment to ponder at least one thing for which I can be grateful.

This morning I am thankful that we no longer use the Old Norse calendar to measure the year, for if we did, we would find ourselves, here mid-January, leaving Mörsugur, or "fat sucking month", and entering "Žorri", or "frozen snow month."

I much prefer "mid-January."

Coupons are back!

They took a little jaunt to the Maldives for the holidays, and returned rejuvenated.

New Glass Selections

Folks occasionally ask us why our glass prices are per pound.

The best answer we can come up with is that we have done it this way for nigh onto 40 years. While this may be quaint, we realize that the times they are a-changin', and perhaps we should consider selling our glass by the square foot. We have our best analysts working on this issue and will report back to you soon. In the meantime, a pound of each of the glass items listed below is approximately 8" x 12". If you order two pounds, we will do our best to send you one 12" x 16" piece.

#3178   Youghiogheny 1100 SP

White, Dense White Opal Stipple

Youghiogheny Glass refers to this as "background glass."   $8.07 per pound

#3287   Youghiogheny 6016 SP

Light Blue, Dark Blue Stipple

Youghiogheny Glass describes this glass as "sky glass, excellent for windows."   $8.07 per pound

#4315   Wissmach 58-D

Medium Amber Opal and/or Crystal

This glass keeps turning up in old lamps that our customers bring in for repairs. It's about time we put it on our website. It's not quite so orange as in the photo here.   $3.49 per pound

#4491   Wissmach 101-LL

Dark Green Opal and/or Crystal Streaky

Wissmach's streaky glass is manufactured by adding a color or colors to a clear glass base, creating streaks of color throughout the sheet. This image doesn't begin to do justice to the beauty of this Wissmach Streaky. The glass is not quite so lime-colored as the photo, and the ephemeral nature of the streaks of green on clear is simply delightful.   $3.65 per pound

From the Mailbag:

Hello,

I forgot to enter the coupon code for the free Textured Glass on my order. Is it possible to add this to the order (hate to pass on free glass!)?

I figured it did not hurt to ask, since the worse that could happen is you say "no".

Thanks,

Rachel G.

Dear Rachel G.,

The worst that could happen involves pestilence and melting of the polar ice cap, compared to which our saying "No" hardly measures up. However, these are things we need not worry about (except perhaps the part about the polar ice cap).

We will add the textured glass to your order forthwith.

Yours Truly,

Early A. Consternation

W-D,

Love the fish eyes -- I scatter them on the floor when I feed the cats tuna and they feel like great hunters having captured their dinners ! I also like to look at them when I am lonely -- they are great uncomplaining companions.

L.S.
Bolivia, North Carolina

Dear Ms. S.,

It is with great regret that we must inform you that we are suffering from a dearth of quizzical fish eyes on wire. We simply cannot send you the 40 that you have requested. We must limit the number to 5, which is to say 10 pair of eyes. We hope that will be enough to embolden your cats and quell your loneliness.

We have a plethora of glass dolls eyes, if you are interested. They are even more quizzical. In fact, in large quantities, they are downright disturbing.

Let us know and we will send you details.

Sincerely,

Early A. Consternation

Hi,

I have just received my order today and found that the 100 Piece Assortment for $11.95 was not in the box. I received an assortment of only 25 pieces in a bag. Would it be possible for me to receive the remaining 75 pieces?

Take care,

Jenny P.

Dear Ms. P.,

Our sincerest apologies for short-changing you in the antique fusibles department. I will pass your note on to our shipping staff and have them send you the remaining 75 pieces forthwith. Perhaps it was an oversight, or it may be that they slipped down the back of the packing table. (The antique fusibles, that is, not the shipping staff.)

Regards,

Early A. Consternation
