Dragonflies!

Small Dragonfly Wing Filigree

We are delighted to announce the arrival of these Small Dragonfly Wing Filigree sets. To our knowledge, we are the only suppliers of these wings in the civilized world. Our wings are based on those of Aeshna juncea, or Common Hawker dragonfly. These wings are identical to the larger wings we have offered for years, only these are a diminutive 6 inches across (as opposed to the larger 9 inches). Made of bright sheet brass.

#7149S   Small Dragonfly Wing Filigree  $3.50 per set of 4 wings

Small Dragonfly Plant Spike Fun Pack

"Just how can I use these new dragonfly wings?" we hear you cry. We have the answer: the Small Dragonfly Plant Spike Fun Pack! (Try saying that five times fast.) With this, the newest of the Whittemore-Durgin Fun Packs, you can create two full-fledged dragonflies, to be used as plant spikes (or perhaps hatpins, or back scratchers, as you see fit). This kit contains two sets of Small Dragonfly Wings, two horseshoe nails for bodies, two spikes to which you may attach your creations, and enough glass to produce two full dragonflies. We even include 6 feet of black-backed copper foil! Complete instructions and pattern included.

BradleyBase Dragonfly Base

image of Bradleybase Dragonfly BaseOne of the most stunning of the BradleyBase illuminated lamp bases is the Dragonfly. Because of the disappearance of small dragonfly wing filigree, the BradleyBase Dragonfly Base pattern has been unavailable for quite some time -- until now.

#2917    BradleyBase Dragonfly Base Pattern (LB10-17), including 6 sets of four (24) brass dragonfly wings. (The shade in the picture is not included in the pattern packet.)    $37.95

New Clarity Kits

Did you know we're a leading supplier of Clarity Kits? We've carried their wonderful kaleidoscope kits and accessories for years, and have added a few more items to our in-stock supply:

#8272 Clarity Spiralscope Kit    This snazzy, brassy keepsake is intended to rest on an oak stand on the mantelpiece of your fashionable rumpus room. The kit includes an 8-1/2" long shiny spiral brass tube, brass eyepiece and other brass parts, as well as 3 mirrors, felt pads, patterns and instructions. (Glass is not included.)    $24.82

#8291 Clarity Lost Planet Kaleidoscope Kit    This cleverly designed affair uses a tapered mirror system to create the optical illusion of a three-dimensional sphere suspended against a black background, like a planet lost in space. Or like something your Old Uncle Charlie used to see from time to time. The finished scope measures 8-1/2" long. The kit contains three pieces of tapered front surface mirror, two Little Oil Wands, and other hardware, plus pattern and instructions. No glass (other than mirrors) is included.    $20.25

In addition, we now carry even more Clarity accessories in stock:

#8273S    Marblescope Stand    $16.00

#8292F    5" Clock Face and Hands    $7.89

* Summer has come in.

This comes from the Middle English round of the same name, composed c. 1260:

Sumer is icumen in,
Lude sing Cucu,
Groweth sed, and bloweth med,
And springeth wude nu.
Sing Cucu!

Awe bleateth after lambe
Lowth after calve cu
Bullock starteth, bucke varteth
Myrie sing Cucu
Cucu, cucu

Well singes thu Cucu
ne swik thi naver nu.

And if you think for a moment that we are going to translate the rest of it for you, you are sadly mistaken.

From the Mailbag:

Dear Sir:

I don't need anything right now, but I would like to thank Nancy for her helpfulness when I needed granite glass to replace clear glass in the old French door I intend to use on my new bathroom. She sent a sample of the very thing I was looking for.

As a writer myself, well a reporter at least, I'd like to say something clever, but alas, my writing style is no match for yours, so I won't humiliate myself or waste any more of your fairly valuable time.

Always your grateful customer,
Joan M

Dear Sir:

Would you please tell me the distance between the sockets on the adjustable swivel cluster sockets (item 6705) ? I also need to know the distance from the bottom of the cluster body to the the bulb opening of the socket when the sockets hang down. If the item does not work for my purposes may I return it?

Thxs,
Paul S.

Dear Mr. S.,

The shop was closed by the time we received your e-mail message. We will reply on Monday with those measurements (unless one of us is so inspired that they go in on Sunday (which has been known to happen)).

Without regard to the political leanings of the individuals here at Whittemore-Durgin, we have a very liberal return policy, which you can read in detail here:
