Early A. Consternation:

Whilst we were tempted to offer a cleverly named promotion along the lines of a "Stained Glass Bailout Plan!" or "Art Glass Economic Stimulus Package!," we have decided to get right down to brass tacks because we know you are busy.

For you folks who need some help with your last-minute Christmas shopping, we have two things of special interest -- a delivery schedule map, and gift certificates.

Please note that have added innumerable new items to our catalog. And, of course, we once again offer the coupons, which have been relegated to the end of this missive this time.

Gift Certificates

For those of you west of the Mississippi, and those who seriously put things off until the last possible minute, we offer Gift Certificates that can be ordered as late as midnight December 24.

From the Mailbag:

Dear Whittemore,

Thank you so much for sending my last order so speedily, and if you want to show off again and send this one zipping along I won't accuse you of being overly zealous. I will sing your praises and name my next piece after you. (It's a peacock tail.)

K.C.
Burlington, Vermont

Dear K. C.,

Your order shipped today.

We are most curious as to what name, exactly, you will choose for this peacock tail of yours. "Whittemore D. Peacock"? "Tails of Consternation"?

Wondering,
Early A. Consternation
Manager of Externals
Whittemore-Durgin Glass Co.

Dear Mr. Consternation,

I am a customer for life. Thanks so much for the great service.

I had planned to name this peacock Whittemore-Durgin, but it is a bit, um, dry. Though it does have the advantage of being inexplicable. "Tails of Consternation" is much catchier. We'll have to see what it looks like, and how much consternation it causes me.

Stand by for a photo. It has to be finished by Monday. And thanks to your prompt delivery I might make it. A local arts group passed out pink flamingos to gullible artists who were willing to decorate them for a fundraiser. The flamingos will be auctioned off.

I told them the title had a long story but I didn't have time to tell it to them.

K.C.

Dearest Ms. C.,

We are delighted by, and indeed humbled by, the avian homage. Insofar as we can recall, we have never before been honored in any similar fashion. Not even remotely.

With Sincere Appreciation,

Early A. Consternation

"Tail of Consternation" was my submission, thanks to you. See attached.

K.C.
