Big, BIG news

Early A. Consternation Manager of
Externals Whittemore-Durgin Glass Co. "The multi-hundred dollar
corporation with a heart."
Here we find ourselves once again contributing to the cacophony known as the "Christmas Shopping Season", which, oddly enough, seems to begin at an earlier date each year. Averse as we are to joining the retail lemmings who vex you with an endless barrage of "holiday" nonsense, we must take into account that we offer craft supplies, after all; and actually executing crafts (if that is what one does with crafts) takes time. The stained glass craft in particular requires a bit more time than other crafts. And some of you slowpokes -- well, let's just leave it right there.
Some of the seasonal items featured herein can be created and enjoyed any time between now and the first thaw, but for those of you who celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah or the Winter Solstice and want to put your creations out for all to see, you had better get started, pronto. Especially you slowpokes. Click on the snowflake to jump to the seasonal stuff. |

New old products
Just a couple of things we found while cleaning out the
attic
#6750 Wooden Fid
We thought we'd sold these out years ago, but we found
an unopened box on a dusty shelf. Used by sailors to assist in the
twisting and splicing of rigging lines, a fid is also used by some stained
glass artists to open lead channels, burnish copper foil, scratch backs,
and perform endless other tasks that would probably never even have
occured to us had we not heard it with our own ears. Sometimes you just
need a fid. There are many folk who prefer the newfangled plastic lead
openers, but we'll keep these around for you Luddites out there. Not
for the fid-challenged. $1.98 each Click here to start shopping now.
#7863 Tricolor 40mm Round Jewel
These have been in a box,
wrapped in paper labeled "Made in West Germany", and have remained
unopened and untouched since before the fall of the Iron Curtain. We sold
some these in the past, but took them out of circulation because (so the
story goes) someone wanted to buy them all. Well, we didn't want to sell
them all. Limit 3 per customer. So there.
$4.95 each Click here to start shopping now. |

The requisite seasonal
stuff
We thought we'd take this opportunity to apprise you of all the Christmasy, wintry items we regularly have in stock. We'll try to be brief.
The next time you hear from us we will tell you about a few more such
things, because we are bound to have forgotten something, seeing as we are
getting on in years. Sometimes it really is hard to keep track of
everything. |

Fairly Important
News
Under new management
The venerable company of Whittemore-Durgin has officially changed hands, and is now owned and managed by the daughter and son-in-law of the former owner, who retired after 40 years of thankless hard work. Perhaps now he can sleep in on occasion.
The new youngsters at the helm insist that they will continue to run things as they have been run in the past, but clearly this is not so. The entire accounting system here has been overhauled and computerized, as has the inventory, purchasing and shipping departments (although they assure me that all of your purchases will still be gently packed by hand, and no robots will be employed in any capacity whatsoever). These whippersnappers claim that these changes will allow us to serve our customers more efficiently. We'll just have to see about that. What's more, they have told me they are redesigning the website "top to bottom."
If you have any requests, suggestions or comments, do not come crying to me, I implore you. Please direct your inquiries, etc., to info@whittemoredurgin.com

Our regular Monday Stained Glass Classes begin again December 4
Stained glass courses are once again being offered at our Rockland factory, whereby you can learn the rudiments of the truly enjoyable craft of stained glass in a relatively short time. The total cost for this course is $70 for beginners, $60 for advanced, which covers instruction for 8 weekly, 2-hour sessions as well as the use of the tools in the classroom during that period. Please call us at (800) 262-1790, or click here to visit the Stained Glass Classes page of our website if you are interested in joining us. Both day and evening classes are available. It's fun. Really.
This is the last time that we will offer these classes at this incredibly low rate. We don't yet know what the increase will be, but we really must raise the price in 2007, at least a little bit.

From the mailbag
Dear WD,
As usual, the shipping box looked like it had been kicked for a field goal more than once, BUT also as usual the 22 sq. ft. of stained glass arrived without a crack and all intact!
Thank you again, A Returning Customer
Dear Returning Customer,
I guess old football players never die, they just get jobs at
UPS.
Thank you for the positive feedback.
Yours Truly,
Early A. Consternation
Manager of Externals
